Water & Pollution Control Officer
(Engineering, Drainage & Water Team)
Full-time: 36 hours per week
Salary: £27,668 to £30,153 per annum (rising to £30,785 per annum after 5 years continuous service) plus £840 Inner Fringe Allowance per annum + essential car user allowance.
We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced person to help the Council meet its statutory duties under the Private Water Supply Regulations. This will involve carrying out inspections, sampling, risk assessments and taking enforcement action. The post holder will also deal with contamination land, water quality, drainage and pollution control matters, including the investigation and resolution of a range of complaints.
You should have a degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Science, or similar subject, (preferably with a water based module) and experience of dealing with private water supplies, land contamination and other environmental issues. The work will involve the interpretation of scientific data, service of statutory notices and giving evidence in court.
You must be able to carry out a range of site inspections in urban and rural locations; carry equipment and undertake sampling in the field; be willing to work outside in unpleasant conditions in all types of weather and be able to work on your own or as part of a team.
It is essential that you are able to effectively communicate with members of the public and manage confrontational situations. The job requires that you hold a current full driving licence and have access to a car for use at all times during working hours.
