Based in our expanding and recently refurbished Croydon office, we have a dedicated tunnelling team working on a number of major projects across both the UK and abroad including Thames Tideway Central Contract, which is the largest and most prestigious construction contact for the Tideway scheme.

We are actively looking to expand our core tunnelling business with the appointment of an Associate Director within the tunnelling team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to manage and further develop with our core team in Croydon, whilst also playing an active role in expanding the business within the UK and overseas. This is a challenging role involving the technical delivery of complex tunnelling projects and will require a range of skills, including technical excellence, innovative delivery, best value, and design management against budget and programme requirements.
You will need to demonstrate experience of delivery at all stages of a project from tender through to detailed design, working as part of a multi-discipline team.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the technical delivery of designs on tunnelling projects (including tunnel linings and shafts).
Expert in the design of precast concrete segmental linings, sprayed concrete linings and shaft designs including diaphragm walls and secant piles.
Experience of developing and mentoring junior engineers to assist with the growth and development of the team.
The candidate must hold a minimum qualification of BEng or similar, preferably in a Civil or Structural Engineering discipline.
The candidate must be a chartered Engineer and a member of a professional body (eg MICE).
Expert working to the appropriate codes and standards.
Detailed understanding of Eurocodes, appropriate standards and best practise.
Detailed understanding of design using FE analysis (inc LUSAS and PLAXIS 3D).
Be able to raise AECOM’s profile by presenting at conferences and publishing technical papers.
Proven track record of delivery on high profile tunnelling projects.
Experience in delivering tunnelling projects in one or more of the following sectors: Road, rail, metros, water supply, sewage, gas or cable tunnels.
